Geography defines East Tennessee as a land of mountains and valleys and with a history and heritage apart from the rest of the state. The East Tennessee Historical Society recognizes this distinctiveness with programs and exhibitions uniquely tailored to the region. This Day In East Tennessee History

December 2, 1990

The question, posed to 805 Tennesseans on this day in 1990, was: "American forces have been stationed in Saudi Arabia since shortly after Iraq invaded Kuwait. What do you believe the U.S. should do?" The response: Stay without attack 35.6%; Attack 30.6%; Come home 25.3%; Don't know 8.5%.
